Announced last year, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is an ambitious sci-fi game featuring a soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

“Set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet puts players into the role of Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago.”

Development started on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet back in 2020 and, according to Naughty Dog, is shaping up to be their “wildest, most creative story yet”. No release date has been announced but according to a new report from Bloomberg, it won’t launch before the middle of 2027 – and even that could be ambitious.

According to people familiar with the schedule, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet  is currently slated for release in mid-2027 but developers have just had to complete seven weeks of “mandatory overtime” in order to get a demo finished in time for an internal deadline.

The crunch period saw developers working up to 60 hours a week, and all working from home was cancelled. “This overtime period was an attempt to get the production back on track after several missed deadlines,” claims Bloomberg, which has some fans worried that it could be years before Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is released.

Naughty Dog were heavily criticised for the intense crunch periods that were demanded from workers to get 2020’s The Last Of Us Part 2 finished.

According to Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann, the game explores themes of faith and religion. “So many of the previous games we’ve done, there’s always an ally with you,” he said in an interview. “I really want you to be lost in a place where you’re really confused about what happened here, who are the people here and what their history was.”

The third season of The Last Of Us adaptation is set to air in 2027 and could be the final chapter in the story, according to HBO’s Francesca Orci. Druckmann has also stepped down as co-showrunner to focus on making Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

In other news, Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver are set to join Sophie Turner in a new Tomb Raider TV series.
