According to a report from Deadline, Jason Isaacs has signed up for the Tomb Raider adaptation while Sigourney Weaver is still in talks. Amazon Prime Video reps have refused to comment on the casting news, and it’s not yet known who Weaver and Isaacs will be playing.

However Tomb Raider fans are stoked about the news. “Going from The White Lotus to Tomb Raider is wild. They’re really putting everything into this series it seems. I’m still unsure of Sophie’s casting, but with Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs on the call sheet I’m cautiously optimistic,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “I wasn’t expecting much of this series but there are already two legendary actors on the cast,” said another. “Wow. The talent behind and in front of the cameras is insane. So excited to see what they are cooking up,” added a third.

Please God let this immensely talented actor play an actually interesting, well written character instead of Richard Croft https://t.co/wGGaZWCj5e

Last year, Amazon Prime Video confirmed it was working alongside video game studio Crystal Dynamics on a new series inspired by the iconic Tomb Raider games. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was announced as the writer and creator of the adaptation and in September, it was revealed that Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner will be playing Lara Croft.

“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” explained Turner. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina (Jolie) and Alicia (Vikander) with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”

Production is set to begin in early 2026 though a release date is still to be confirmed. According to Prime Video boss Vernon Sanders, the series will “honour the beloved Tomb Raider legacy while delivering fresh adventures to fans worldwide.”

Earlier this week it was confirmed that new Tomb Raider games will have a new actor playing Lara Croft. For 2026’s Legacy Of Atlantis, a remake of the 1996 original Tomb Raider, and 2027’s Catalyst, the badass archeologist will be played by Alix Wilton Regan who takes over from Camilla Luddington.

In other news, Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan has responded to a fan theory comparing his new show Pluribus to a Grand Theft Auto game.
