We’ve had three unit releases from the members of SEVENTEEN, and next up are the powerhouse vocalists DK and SEUNGKWAN, who are debuting with their new unit as DxS and their 1st mini album, Serenade, slated for release on January 12th.
The trailer titled ‘An Ordinary Love’ was released through HYBE LABELS’ official YouTube channel on the 16th December. Nothing short of a short cinematic piece, the visual perfectly encapsulates both the singers’ vocal emotions, with the narrative following lovers on different paths in life that mirrors the album’s emotional arc, heightening anticipation for the upcoming release.
The trailer opens with DK unable to hang up an unanswered phone call, capturing a moment suspended between longing and hesitation. Scenes that follow depict DK and his loved one existing in the same space yet feeling worlds apart. Symbolic objects—such as wilted plants and dried fruit—hint at a relationship nearing its end. DK’s monotonous daily rhythm soon shifts when an unexpected encounter introduces new tension and a turning point in the story.
SEUNGKWAN appears as a clerk at a comic book café, a character who recalls a past love when he sees a customer’s book. A brief smile flickers across his face as he revisits the warmth of the memory, only for the moment to break when he accidentally drops a comic while rushing to hand over the books. The title of the fallen book, “Blue”, flashes across the scene, adding intrigue to the unfolding narrative.
Serenade, meaning “a love song sung at night”, captures every moment between meeting and parting through DK and SEUNGKWAN’s emotional storytelling. Filled up with the sentimentality of winter, the album portrays relatable moments of ordinary love, promising deep emotional resonance for listeners. As we know with both artists, these songs are going to be jam-packed with soaring notes, tear-jerking lyrics, and punched with notes that we all wish we could hit at karaoke. Having appeared on K-drama soundtracks, there’s no doubt that their upcoming music will be the perfect vibe to fit alongside any dramatic scene in life too. The duo is ready to dive deeper into their identity and exceptional artistry, inviting listeners into a harmony of their complementary timbres, refined technique, powerful delivery, and rich expressiveness.
This, of course, isn’t the first time the duo have released music outside SEVENTEEN, having returned with BSS, comprised of the members’ names BOOSEOKSOON, with fellow member Hoshi, who went on to create viral hits such as “Fighting”, and 2024’s 2nd single album, ‘Telepathy’, with hits such as “CBZ (Prime Time)”, which always hits the mark with songs to help you through a mundane workday.
