Fallout season two launched earlier this week with a third season already confirmed by Amazon. In a new interview with the BBC, Bethesda director Todd Howard has admitted that future Fallout games will be influenced by what happens in the TV show.

“In short, yes [the games will be impacted by the show],” he said. “Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening. We are taking that into account.”

While the live-action adaptation tells an original story, the events are canon in the Fallout game universe. Previously, Howard confirmed that the first season was rewritten to avoid plot points that had been earmarked for Fallout 5.

However it seems that fans will be waiting a long time to find out how Lucy, The Ghoul and Maximus’ adventures to New Vegas will influence future games, with Fallout 5 set to launch after The Elder Scrolls 6. The sequel to Skyrim was first announced back in 2018 but isn’t expected to launch until 2028. “It’s a process,” Howard said in a recent interview. “We all wish it went a little bit faster – or a lot faster – but it’s a process that we want to get right.”

“What do fans really want,” added design director Emil Pagliarulo. “Do they want a game that comes out before it should and doesn’t meet their expectations? Or do they want the turkey that is in the oven for long enough to be delicious when it finally comes out of the oven, you know? So, we’re going to take our time and as long as it needs to be to be great.”

Earlier this year, a report claimed “multiple” Fallout titles were in the works.

Fallout season three is set to start filing early next year, with creators eager to release new episodes as quickly as possible. “I think what’s happened with television, in terms of taking longer and longer from season to season, is kind of an unfortunate trend,” executive producer Jonathon Nolan told IGN. According to the show’s Aaron Moten, the plan is for Fallout to run for as many as six seasons.

In other news, Hogwarts Legacy has become one of the best-selling games of all time with more than 40million copies sold.
