For 30 years, FIFA and EA Sports dominated the football video game market but the two companies parted ways in 2023, reportedly due to FIFA demanding twice as money as they had in previous years. EA Sports FC 24 launched the same year, with a new entry coming every year since.
At the time, FIFA said it would also be releasing annual football games with FIFA president Gianni Infantino claiming that “the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans”. However, no game was ever released.
That’s set to change, thanks to a new partnership with Netflix. Next year, fans can play “a newly reimagined FIFA football simulation game” exclusively on Netflix Games. The FIFA game has been created by Delphi Interactive who, according to their website, “build AAA games based on the most desirable IP franchises in the world.”
“Our mission is simple: Make the FIFA game the most fun, approachable, and global football game ever created,” said CEO Casper Daugaard.

The new FIFA game will allow players to “experience the emotion and drama of The World Cup 2026 in its purest, most joyful form — in a format that’s fast to learn, thrilling to master, and built for anyone to jump in.” The game can be played solo or with friends online. “All you need is Netflix and your phone,” reads a press release. However the new FIFA will only be available on select TVs in certain countries to begin with.
“The FIFA World Cup is going to be the cultural event of 2026, and now fans will be able to celebrate their fandom by bringing the game right into their living rooms,” said Alain Tascan, president of games at Netflix. “We want to bring football back to its roots with something everyone can play with just the touch of a button.”
“This major collaboration is a key milestone in FIFA’s commitment to innovation in the football gaming space, which aspires to reach billions of football fans of all ages everywhere in the world and will be redefining the pure notion of simulation games,” added Infantino. “Our reimagined game truly marks the beginning of a new era of digital football. It will be available for free to Netflix members and is a great historic step for FIFA.”
Earlier this year, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery was turned into a party game for Netflix subscribers, with a host of other titles that can be played using your TV remote also added to the service.
In March, Tascan said he wanted to turn more Netflix IPs into video games, with Bridgerton, Stranger Things and One Piece top of his list while an updated version of Red Dead Redemption was also added to Netflix’s games offering.
