The iconic fantasy director appeared on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast yesterday (December 9) to talk about his latest film Frankenstein but was also asked what his favourite video game of all time was.

“The most immersive has to be BioShock and Death Stranding. The best universe is Metal Gear Solid. The one that I’m really good at and love is Left 4 Dead,” he told host Josh Horowitz.

“I like the big, sandbox games like Red Dead Redemption. Shadow Of The Colossus is a masterpiece. It’s atmospheric and poetic and tragic. And some of the God Of War games are just some of the best cinematic experiences I’ve ever had,” he continued. “You know when he fights Odin and Odin keeps coming back and he looks like a Peaky Blinders brawler and he beats the crap out of Kratos… what a great video game. The way they use the budget of data on the console to create atmospheric dispersion and light… it’s like a film.”

Amazon announced they were working on an adaptation of God Of War back in 2022. Earlier this year, it was confirmed Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek) was taking over as showrunner after the project was rebooted in 2023. He called it a daunting project because “I’m not a gamer” and he’s never done anything like this before, which worried a number of diehard fans. Now news about casting has been announced yet but Stranger ThingsFinn Wolfhard has said he wants to be involved

Last week, it was rumoured a mysterious statue was teasing a new God Of War game ahead of a reveal at year’s Game Awards but that was swiftly debunked by franchise lead Cory Barlog. A report earlier this year claimed a new game was in the works, set in ancient Egypt.

In other news, Larian Studios have hit back at rumours they’re about to unveil a brand new Divinity: Original Sin title at this year’s The Game Awards.
