Francesca Scorsese admits she got new director job because of dad Martin

Francesca Scorsese has admitted she got a new directing job thanks to her father Martin Scorsese.

The actress, filmmaker and social media star has helmed an episode of docuseries Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints, which is narrated by the Goodfellas director and focuses on  the lives of a few saints.

Speaking about the job, Francesca revealed that wouldn’t “deny” that she was helped by her father.

“I got this obviously because my dad was overseeing everything as the executive producer,” she told Variety. “I’m not going to deny anything. I’m honored to be given an opportunity like this, and I’m going to do my best.”

The director also said that she had “some hesitation” over working with Fox Nation, who are streaming the series, given the Fox network’s politics.

“But I know how my dad feels with everything,” she added. “I feel pretty much the same way as he does in terms of politics and everything, and I look up to him, and I really follow in his footsteps a lot of the time. But Fox was the only one that supported this project and that wanted to bring this project to life. I think there’s something to say about that.”

Francesca’s episode focuses on Carlo Acutis, who died in 2006 and became the first millennial saint earlier this year.

Francesca is well-known for making amusing TikToks with her father, including his reactions to “feminine items” and Martin being a “certified silly goose”. She has also appeared in HBO series We Are Who We Are.

Meanwhile, Martin was recently the subject of Apple TV miniseries Mr. Scorsese, which looks at the legendary director’s life and career.

In a five-star review, NME said: “Whereas some biographies can feel like moving Wikipedia pages, Mr. Scorsese is a vivid, wild ride through the mind of a cinematic genius. Gorgeously composed and unflinching in its examination, it’s five hours of movie nerd heaven.”

Elsewhere, back in October Martin revealed that he nearly became a priest when he was younger, but was kicked out for bad behaviour.
