Grand Theft Auto 6 was officially announced in December 2023 with a launch window of 2025. However earlier this year, it was announced that the long-awaited follow-up to 2013’s GTA 5 would be delayed until May 26, 2026 so Rockstar Games can “polish” the title. Earlier this month, the game was delayed even further and will now launch November 19, 2026.
Confirming the delay, Rockstar Games wrote: “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait. But these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

Today (November 19) marks one year until the long-awaited game is supposed to be released, which has sparked another debate between fans about further delays.
“Honestly, it feels like just yesterday we were talking about the May 26 date being just a year away, so even with the delay the game will be here sooner than we think,” wrote one hopeful fan. “It could be delayed, but anyone acting so sure it’s going to be delayed from a release date one year in the future is just dooming,” added another.
“Rockstar can’t afford to delay it again. I imagine they’d rather release it next November regardless, then do whatever else they need with post launch patches. Another delay at this point would be catastrophic for them and their reputation,” said one fan.
It’s NOT going to get delayed again. Please remember this tweet if I am right. https://t.co/leQ92MRqjB

However plenty of others are expecting Grand Theft Auto 6 to actually launch at some point in 2027. “Not getting hyped until I know for certain that it’s coming out on that date,” wrote one fan with another speculating that it’s “10/10 getting delayed again”.
“It’s not dooming, just recognition that Rockstar games can literally never just stick to an announced release date,” added a third. “It was announced two years out in 2023 and people were still (depressingly) correct to say ‘Well, 2026 it is’.”
Earlier this week, one game analyst warned that the Grand Theft Auto 6 delay could push back the release of the next-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles. “Publishers will undoubtedly shuffle around their release schedules to avoid going head-to-head with GTA 6,” he added.
