The Oppenheimer filmmaker’s forthcoming project is an adaptation of the ancient Greek epic poem by Homer, and features an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson.

The film is the first to be shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, and it appears as though fans will be able to reserve their seats for that format a full year before the movie’s July 17, 2026 release date. Variety has reported that select locations will offer limited screenings early, but only in cinemas where IMAX 70mm projection (Nolan’s preferred format) will be offered.

At the time of writing, it appears the option is only available in the US, with none of the UK’s large format IMAX screens listing the presale ahead of time.

At the beginning of the month, a trailer for The Odyssey was released exclusively in cinemas. The clip featured a voiceover setting the scene for Damon’s lead character, a soldier on a decade-long journey to return from war. It also features Holland as his son, Telemachus, asking for news of his father, only for an unnamed character (Jon Bernthal) to share conflicting rumours about his whereabouts.

The Odyssey is still in production, having filmed in Morocco, Greece and Sicily. The shoot is currently in Scotland, according to reports from BBC News.

In May, stunt performer James Newman expressed his excitement in being involved on the project. “They’re never going to make a movie like this again,” he said. “I think it’s going to be an epic of all epics. It’s going to be Nolan at his best. No holds barred”.
