Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-awaited sequel to 2017’s Hollow Knight. Originally developers Team Cherry started working on an expansion for the game but in 2019, they confirmed it had grown into a standalone sequel.

Silksong was due for release in the first half of 2023 but never arrived and the game still doesn’t have a release date.

However, last week some fans began speculating that Hollow Knight: Silksong could be tied into the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 after co-creator William Pellen changed their Discord profile picture to that of a chocolate cake.

After some quick Googling, fans discovered that the recipe the image was taken from was originally published on April 2, the date of Nintendo’s big upcoming Switch 2 Direct presentation.

>cake pfp redirects to a recipe when searched
>recipe was made April 2nd
>Nintendo direct for switch 2 is April 2nd
>Nintendo is consistently involved with hollow knight

However, Team Cherry has reportedly reached out to Hollow Knight YouTuber fireb0rn and told them it was all just a coincidence. “The changes to William’s account were a nothingburger. Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie,” they said.

“I just want to know if the game is progressing in its development or if the team has given up on the project,” wrote one desperate player, tagging Team Cherry developer Matthew Griffin in the tweet.

“Yes the game is real, progressing and will release,” he replied.

Despite debunking the Switch 2 cake theory, fans are still hoping Nintendo’s rumoured February Switch presentation might include news on Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Last year, developers took to the Silksong Discord to confirm they were “still hard at work on the game” and in June, a playtester confirmed that the game wasn’t in “development hell”. As well as being available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.

In other news, the latest report about Grand Theft Auto 6 has fans worried the base game could cost $100.
