Later this month (January 31), Grateful Dead will be celebrated and recognised as MusiCares’ 2025 Persons of the Year. To honour the legendary band, an all-star roster has been amassed to perform in tribute. Among the bands performing, per The Hollywood Reporter, are the likes of Dead & Company with John Mayer, Mick Fleetwood and Stewart Copeland, Vampire Weekend, Noah Kahan, Norah Jones, Maren Morris and more.

Also set to perform are Sammy Hagar, The War On Drugs, Billy Strings, the War and Treaty, Sierra Farrell and Lukas Nelson, My Morning Jacket and Dwight Yoakam. Bruce Hornsby is also expected to make an appearance, while Andy Cohen will serve as the Gala’s emcee.

Rolling Stone adds that Zac Brown, Dave Matthews and Wynonna Judd will also perform and that an official announcement will be arriving soon.

When the gala was first announced in October, MusiCares shared that the night will include a posthumous tribute to Grateful Dead founder Jerry Garcia. However, with founding bassist Phil Lesh dying shortly after the announcement at the age of 85, a tribute to Lesh can also be expected at the gala event.

Past honourees at the MusiCares Gala include the likes of Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton and more. Grateful Dead will mark only the third time a band have been inducted, following Fleetwood Mac and Aerosmith.

The upcoming Gala event will also mark the first time honourees are receiving the award posthumously in the form of Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh.

In other news, Dead & Company – who are made up of Grateful Dead‘s Bob Weir and Mickey Hart alongside John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane – have announced a 2025 residency at Las Vegas venue, the Sphere.

The upcoming run will see them continue from the 2024 residency at the same venue. Tickets for Dead & Company at the Sphere are now on sale here, with hotel packages and VIP bundles available. Their 2025 residency will run throughout March, April and May.
