Donald Trump called Kid Rock to ask if Secret Service banned him from using strippers at victory rally ahead of inauguration

Kid Rock has said that Donald Trump personally phoned him ahead of a victory rally this week to inquire whether the Secret Service had banned him from having strippers in his performance.

The ‘All Summer Long’ singer is one of the performers at the inauguration event in Washington D.C, ahead of the official swearing-in ceremony today (January 20).

Prior to his performance, Kid Rock made a joke about being banned from using strippers on stage by the Secret Service and it turns out, the President-elect caught word.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, the singer said: “Friday morning I got a call from the President and Melania and it was kind of mind-blowing, I’ve tried to leave him alone, he’s got a lot on his plate, I would think, right now.”

He continued: “He called and he goes, ‘Did the Secret Service really tell you that you can’t use strippers?‘” To which he told the station he responded: “No, sir, I was just joking around.”

“Ah, that’s funny,” Trump replied, according to Kid Rock.

Kid Rock is a long-time supporter of Trump’s political career, dating back to his initial election victory in 2016. During the recent campaign, he continued to be a mouthpiece for Trump’s camp, appearing at several rallies to champion the candidate.

Following Trump’s win, the singer shared a message saying it was “not the time to gloat”, and later met with the President-elect’s Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi to take aim at the current state of the concert ticket industry.

Now, he joins Carrie Underwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, Nelly and Village People on the bill – the latter having already performed their hit ‘Y.M.C.A.’ earlier today (January 20).

Underwood is set to be the musical guest performer for the main ceremony where Trump becomes the 47th President of the United States – set to sing ‘America the Beautiful’ on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

Following backlash on social media, Whoopi Goldberg defended Underwood’s decision to perform at the event, but added that she will not be watching.

The actor and chat show host has been critical of Trump’s policies in the past – even refusing to say his name after his election win.

Earlier this week, Village People addressed their decision to perform at the inauguration and said that they agreed as they think “music is to be performed without regard to politics”. They also recalled that while the appearance “won’t make some of you happy”, they hope it will “help bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost”.

Nelly has also responded to the backlash, calling it “an honour” to perform at the ceremony. “I respect the office. It don’t matter who is in office. The same way our brothers and sisters go to war to put their life on the line for whoever is in office,” he said. “So, if they can put their life on the line for whoever is in office, I can damn sure perform for whoever is in office.”

Trump’s 2017 inauguration featured performances from Rockettes, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and America’s Got Talent singer Jackie Evancho. Obama’s first inauguration in 2009 saw Aretha Franklin perform, while Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson sang at his second inauguration in 2013.
