The show returned to the small screen on January 1, with the new six episode run focusing on the British Army’s Special Air Service during World War II. Set in 1943, it brings the show’s focus to the European theatre, focusing on the allied invasion of Italy.

Written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, the show is based on real events and follows the outline of Ben Macintyre’s book of the same name, released in 2016.

Jack O’Connell’s poetry-loving war hero Paddy Mayne returns for the second season, assuming leadership of the unit after the capture of David Stirling (Connor Swindells) and rebrands it as the Special Raiding Squadron (SRS). New characters for season two include Gwilym Lee’s Bill Stirling and Jack Barton’s John Eliot Tonkin.

All episodes of seasons one and two are streaming on BBC iPlayer now, while the final episode of the second season will air for the first time on BBC One on January 26.

What is the SAS: Rogue Heroes theme song?

The second season of the show features an array of anachronistic punk and new wave songs, including by Madness, New York Dolls, The Saints and The Fall.

While the show does not feature a theme song per se, it does lead with the track ‘Rip It Up’ by Southern California punks Adolescents. The song first appeared on their 1981 EP ‘Welcome To Reality’ and its fast-paced riffs and snarling vocals lend the show a frantic energy from the off.

Other memorable song inclusions from the new season include The Cult’s ‘She Sells Sanctuary’, The Fall’s ‘Theme From Sparta FC’, Magazine’s ‘Shot By Both Sides’ and The Damned’s ‘Neat Neat Neat’.
