Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 shooter that sees teams of comic book heroes and villains team up to destroy one another. The game launched on December 6, and more than 10million players did battle in its first week.

Marvel Rivals has continued to pull in big numbers as well, with the hero-shooter currently one of the most-played games on Steam. Now, developers NetEase Games have confirmed what will be added to the game in the coming weeks.

Season one of Marvel Rivals launches this Friday (January 10), and will see the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards (aka Mr Fantastic) and Susan Storm (aka The Invisible Woman) become playable characters.

“Mister Fantastic’s cellular elasticity allows him to stretch his body beyond all physical limits”, while the Invisible Woman can “generate impenetrable force fields and to make herself fade from sight in an instant”. Fellow Fantastic Four members The Thing and Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch) will also be joining the game in the near future.

The update also introduces a new storyline to the game. With Doctor Strange trapped in the Entangled Astral Plane, Dracula and Doctor Doom have teamed up to disrupt the moon’s orbit and plunge the world into eternal night. An army of vampiric creatures are now able to attack, so it’s up to you and the rest of your team to save the day. Two new maps, Sanctum Santorum and Midtown: New York, will be added too.

According to a new developer diary, the season one update will also nerf Hela and Hawkeye as “ranged duelists [are currently] dominating line-ups”. Additionally, the likes of Captain America, Venom, Wolverine, Storm and Cloak & Dagger will receive buffs to help balance Marvel Rivals. Developers also said season one will offer “double the playable content of a regular season”.

Marvel Rivals Season One: Eternal Night Falls will reportedly last for three months, with chapter one going live this Friday before chapter two is introduced in six weeks’ time.

In other news, Sony has confirmed hit PlayStation game Ghost Of Tsushima will be turned into an anime series that will premiere in 2027.
