Grand Theft Auto boss Strauss Zelnick has said GTA 6 will be “worth waiting for” as concerns about a delay continue to grow.

According to publishers Take Two, Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release at some point this year. However it’s now been over a year since developers Rockstar shared the first and only teaser trailer for the game, with fans starting to get worried the long-awaited sequel will get pushed back to 2026.
A number of fans were also expecting an update in December but Rockstar stayed silent. However Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did appear on content creator Conner Mather’s YouTube channel to talk about the game.
While he didn’t give any news about a potential release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, he did claim the game would be “worth waiting for”.
“I think it will be extraordinary,” he added. “We definitely listen to feedback from fans but remember, the biggest hits are always the ones that are unexpected. Everything we do has to be new and different, not derivative. I think it will be breathtaking”.
“Our teams are focused on what’s new that you haven’t even thought about. You thought you were anticipating this thing but this is way bigger and better and more exciting and beautiful than you could have possibly thought of,” Strauss continued. “It’s true that fan feedback is important but you can’t be totally data driven, you have to be creatively driven. It creates enormous pressure on our teams (because) it’s not just business, it’s emotion. The stress can be enormous but I think the whole team feels blessed we get to dedicate our lives to this.”
Speaking about the “complaints” from fans about the wait, Strauss said the team “liked the fact people care”.
Last year, Rockstar publishing director David Manley said Grand Theft Auto 6 would be “absolutely mind-blowing” however it was also reported that a number of other game developers were delaying their plans for 2025 due to the unknown release date of Grand Theft Auto 6.
In other news, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 players can currently take part in a number of Squid Game-inspired matches as part of a three-week crossover with the hit Netflix show.
