Marvel has officially confirmed that Black Panther 3 is in development, following Denzel Washington‘s inadvertent reveal last month.

The news came as longtime Marvel executive Nate Moore announced he’s set to leave the studio early next year but will be working on Black Panther 3 before he departs.
Moore said: “Nearly everything I know about producing I’ve learned from my time at Marvel Studios. I feel lucky to have worked with a group of people who love filmmaking and storytelling as much as my Marvel colleagues and the cast and crew of our films. But I couldn’t be more excited to apply my experience and passion for film towards theatrical movies in all genres, including returning to the world of Wakanda for Black Panther 3.”
Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito said: “Nate is a fantastic executive and colleague as well as a wonderful friend to all of us here at Marvel Studios.
“He has been a core member of our team since 2010, and his influence will continue to reverberate in our storytelling. Although we’ll miss him a great deal, we look forward to watching what he does next while also having the good fortune of working with him in a new way on our next Black Panther movie.”

Moore is set to stay at Marvel until mid-March. He’s currently producing Captain America: Brave New World, out on February 14, which sees Anthony Mackie reprise his role as the titular superhero.
While on the press tour for Gladiator 2 last month, Washington revealed on Australia’s Today show that Black Panther 3 director Ryan Coogler was writing him a role for the movie – before any official announcement had taken place.
He said, discussing his final roles before plans to retire: “I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70. “After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m going to do the film Othello, After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”
He subsequently apologised, as he revealed in an appearance on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast (via CNN). “I called him and apologised for talking about the movie, and right there sitting with him was his beautiful wife,” he said. “He’s still Ryan, humble and full of ideas. Whatever he writes, I’ll read.”
Black Panther was released in 2018, starring the late Chadwick Boseman as the titular character. The first sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, came out in 2022, with Boseman’s death in 2020 written into the story.
In a four-star review, NME called the sequel a “magical memorial” to the actor, and said: “What really makes the film stand out is its mature atmosphere. This is about grief, more so than any other Marvel movie, and the legacy one leaves behind.
“‘To me – he was everything. My T’Challa,’ says Nakia, in a heartfelt moment that doubtless reflects the way many felt about Chadwick Boseman. The film finishes with a dedication to him – although maybe there was no need. Wakanda Forever is, itself, a fitting tribute to him.”
