Pete Davidson “very happy” after taking step back from acting

Pete Davidson has said he is “very happy” after taking some time away from Hollywood.

The actor and comedian left Saturday Night Live in 2022 after eight seasons and now works as the creative director of the sock brand Doublesoul.

In an interview with W, Davidson explained that his decision came about partly over the negative press he received from his high-profile celebrity relationships with the likes of Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian.

“Luckily, I got hit on the face with the Hollywood shovel,” he told the publication. “It was a long time coming, and I needed it. I’m very happy where I am right now, mentally.”

Davidson said he wanted to be known for doing “good work,” citing projects in film, stand-up, charity or business as potential avenues through which he wants to be perceived.

“That’s when I want to be seen. I don’t want to be this fucking loser who just dates people. That’s not who I am.”

He continued: “The media takes a handful of celebs every couple of years, and they just destroy them. For some reason, I’m one of the people they chose to go after.

“It’s actually, in a way, a blessing, because it allowed me to take a step back and evaluate things. What do you want to be? Who are you? I’m someone who is from Staten Island, wanted to do stand-up, and if I got to do anything else because of stand-up, it was a miracle.”

In July, Davidson reportedly checked into a wellness facility for his mental health after he finished a run of more than 200 live stand-up shows across the US, as well as several film projects and the release of his second Netflix special, Turbo Fonzarelli.

The King Of Staten Island star has been open about his sobriety journey on his tour, as well as his history of dealing with borderline personality disorder and severe post-traumatic stress disorder.
