FIFA is releasing a new mobile video soccer game in collaboration with the next-generation technology studio Mythical Games.

On Friday (Nov. 22), the international governing body of soccer known as FIFA announced that they are in partnership with Mythical Studios (creators of the hit NFL Rivals game) to launch a new officially licensed mobile video game. The game will be called FIFA Rivals, and it marks the next stage of FIFA’s electronic sports portfolio.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Mythical Games to launch FIFA Rivals, bringing football fans a mobile-first gaming experience that deepens their connection to the sport. The game is an innovative and accessible addition to our expanding gaming and esports portfolio,” said FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström in the press release.

FIFA Rivals will be available on iOS and Android systems and set up to be free-to-play. The game will sidestep simulated action for arcade-style gameplay in head-to-head matchups with other players. Users will have the chance to create their own football clubs from the start and improve their rosters by leveling up. Users will also get the opportunity to take advantage of the Mythos Blockchain Integration component of FIFA Rivals, which will allow users to own, buy, sell, and trade for players on in-game marketplaces for cash. The expectation is that FIFA Rivals will be available in the summer of 2025 – a full year before the 2026 FIFA World Cup takes place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

“We are excited to partner with FIFA and leverage our expertise to create an unparalleled football gaming experience,” said John Linden, CEO and Founder of Mythical Games in the press statement. “Our goal is to replicate our success with the previous Rivals game and set new benchmarks in the web3 gaming sector. The combination of officially licensed football stars (past and present), prestigious clubs from around the world, and globally competitive esports gameplay will take sports gameplay to a new level. Through this long-term partnership with FIFA, there are major plans to integrate into the FIFA esports platform to give players in every country the ability to become a participant or fan.”
