As reported by TheGamer, a deal that allows first-time users to trial Game Pass Ultimate for just $1 (£0.77) is no longer available. People were previously able to get two weeks of the service and all its benefits for the price.

While no statement or official reasoning has been given, the timing would suggest that it’s to prevent people playing Black Ops 6 which will be available via Game Pass Ultimate at a heavily discounted rate.

Due to Microsoft’s acquisition of Call of Duty developer Activision Blizzard King, the series is available on Game Pass at no extra cost for the first time ever. Black Ops 6 will be playable for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on October 25, but now you’ll have to pay the full price for it: $19.99 (£14.99) per month.

The removal of this cheap trial option comes just a few months after Microsoft announced it was changing the pricing structure of Game Pass. There is now a new standard tier that removes some of the benefits associated with Game Pass, such as day one first-party releases and cloud gaming capabilities. This was announced alongside a general price hike of the other tiers, which is now in effect.

Black Ops 6 is set during the Gulf War and takes place after the events of Cold War. The trailers show it features returning characters such as Frank Woods. The story appears to revolve around some sort of secretive combat operation.

In other news, The Last Dinner Party are performing their breakout song ‘Nothing Matters’ in Simlish, the language spoken in The Sims.
