The rising New York singer-songwriter is on this week’s (October 14) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Juliet Ivy here, written by Crystal Bell and featuring photography by Marisa Bazan.

The Cover is accompanied by an exclusive playlist compiled by Ivy, featuring some of the songs she deems to be “tiny but scary good”. The playlist includes tracks by the likes of Beabadoobee, Dora Jar, Mazzy Star, Shelly, and Julia Jacklin, among others. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

Speaking to NME for The Cover, Juliet Ivy explains her outlook on life and how that fuelled her latest EP, ‘Tiny But Scary’. “It presents like this sweet-sounding music, but then I feel like, if you listen to the lyrics, I am really trying to be vulnerable about hard times and scary thoughts,” she says. “That’s all part of what being a girl or being a human is. I find a lot of beauty in that.”

The singer-songwriter also reflects on her desire to seize every opportunity that comes her way, pointing to an experience in her childhood she’s always lamented not taking. “When I was about nine, my parents and I were boarding a plane,” she explains. “The cockpit door was open, and [the pilot] was like, ‘Hey, do you want to make an announcement on the speaker?’ But I was too scared, and I said no. I’ve regretted that decision for my entire life.”
