Liam Gallagher reacts to ‘SNL’ Oasis sketch: “Are they meant to be comedians”

Saturday Night Live has done a mock Oasis reunion poking fun at the Gallagher brothers’ past tensions, which has drawn mixed reactions from viewers – including Liam Gallagher.

In yesterday’s (October 12) show, James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman appeared in the “Weekend Update” sketch as the formerly estranged brothers and promised host Colin Jost they won’t break up again before their ‘LIVE 25‘ tour next year.

“Everyone’s wondering, are you guys gonna be cool to tour a year from now?” Jost asked the Gallaghers. “I’m cool if he’s cool,” Johnson’s Noel responded, with Sherman’s Liam replying: “I’m cool, I’m cool, I’m cooler than you are.”

“Great, so that’s a no,” Jost remarked. “It’s not a hard no, it’s a maybe,” Sherman said.

Johnson then burst into a rendition of ‘Wonderwall’, with amended lyrics including: “I said maybe, if Liam doesn’t act like a baby,” which inspired the two bickering even more, calling each other babies and sticking their tongues out at each other.

Viewers were quick to criticise the sketch, with one taking to X/Twitter to say it was “just as cringe as you imagine”. One also tagged Liam in a clip, to which he replied: “Are they meant to be comedians.” Check out more reactions below.

This Oasis bit is so nonsensical but really making me laugh I guess that’s just part of being an Elder Millennial IDK #Snl

If you haven’t got anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all. Unless it’s about Boris Johnson or that SNL Oasis sketch – then both fucking barrels, lads.

SNL have done an Oasis bit and it’s just as cringe as you imagine.

I’ve seen the SNL Oasis sketch and it just confirms the USA is teetering on the brink of being a failed state.

Hey SNL, if you’re gonna do Oasis, please don’t make them be from Essex

JFC, that Oasis segment on #SNL Weekend Update was so bad. Never knew Oasis were secretly from London…

Welllll…. SNL is still not funny , stayed up to watch Stevie nicks but these skits are bloody awful
By the way Oasis do not talk with a Cockney accent .., they are from Manchester

The ‘SNL’ sketch followed the news Oasis will be taking the tour to North America and Mexico next year, which was announced just days after NME exclusively revealed the cities that Oasis will be playing on their upcoming 2025 reunion tour.

They’ll kick off on August 24 with an opening night at the Rogers Stadium in Toronto, before Liam and Noel  head over to the United States for three shows.

These include a night at Soldier Field in Chicago and a gig at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on August 28 and 31 respectively, followed by a show at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Los Angeles on September 6.

One show has been announced for Mexico City too, scheduled for the Estadio GNP Seguros venue on September 12. Cage The Elephant will be joining the band as special guests for all new dates, and the US shows come 16 years after the Britpop legends last performed in the country. Meanwhile, fans have been speculating over who will be opening for Oasis at the reunion shows next year. So far, support has only been announced for the North American leg – which will see Cage The Elephant join the line-up.

It was reported last month that Liam Gallagher was seeking “established acts” to appear on the bill. The frontman has since suggested that Manic Street Preachers and Richard Ashcroft could take on opening slots.

Elsewhere, Blossoms recently spoke to NME about the possibility of supporting Oasis at their Live ’25 dates. It currently looks unlikely that Suede or Fontaines D.C. will be on the line-up after Liam hit out at both bands online.

Earlier this week, Britain’s Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy used her first address to the UK music industry to condemn the dynamic pricing applied to Oasis UK reunion tour tickets.

The MP first called for a review into “dynamic pricing” and secondary ticket sites in September, after tickets for Oasis’s highly anticipated reunion tour went on sale in the UK and Ireland. Some fans were disappointed to find huge price increases due to Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing policy upon accessing ticket pages.
