Saoirse Ronan has expressed her desire to portray the antagonist in a future James Bond film, while also tipping her husband, Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden, to be the next 007.
In a recent interview for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Lady Bird star shared her vision for her possible villain casting. She did admit, however, that she’s yet to pitch the idea to Bond producer Barbara Broccoli directly.
“I’m afraid to say it to her in person! I know her a little bit,’ Ronan told host Josh Horowitz.
When asked what her ‘affectation’ might be as a villain, such as an eye patch or a white cat, she jokingly suggested “a limp”.
“I don’t know but I’m conscious of being blonde because I feel like a lot of villains in movies, they’re always like, make them super blonde and evil looking,” she continued. “I’d want to break [the trend], but honestly it’s whatever Barbara wants!”
Horowitz then asked her who she would pick if only she could be the villain or Lowden could be Bond. The actress smiled and replied: “He should be Bond. If it’s a choice between the two,” before laughingly adding: “Isn’t it nice that I’ve done that?”
The identity of Daniel Craig’s replacement as 007 is still yet to be confirmed, although it was reported in March that EON Production had offered Aaron Taylor-Johnson the job after he impressed Broccoli in a screen test.
The actor was asked about the rumours in April, but swerved the question, as he had done multiple times previously. Neither he nor the producers have confirmed or denied the speculation.
Former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan also weighed in on the potential casting, showing his support for Taylor-Johnson.
One of the other actors considered among the frontrunners is Henry Cavill, who said earlier this year that he may be “too old now” to take on the role.
Ben Whishaw, meanwhile, who played Q in the last three films, recently said that he does not expect to reprise the character again. “I think they’re going to start all over again with a new cast, a completely new cast, that’s my hunch.”
