The collaboration between the iconic alt-rock frontman and Scott and Seth Avett was announced last year, when they revealed in autumn that they had come together to form a new band called AVTT/PTTN.
They went on to share a self-titled debut album in November, and announced plans for a full US tour, which was set to kick off after a promotional gig at the Grammy Museum and a slot on The Tonight Show.
Now, the band have played the first two shows of the highly anticipated tour, and it sees them break out material from the new album as well as classics from Patton’s other musical projects.
The stint kicked off in Louisville on Friday (April 10) and before moving on to Nashville on Saturday (April 11). They opened the show with their AVTT/PTTN tracks ‘Disappearing’ and ‘The Ox Driver’s Song’, before moving into three Avett Brothers tracks: ‘Ain’t No Man’, ‘No Hard Feelings’ and ‘May It Last’.
Other cuts from the new collaborative album with Patton included ‘Dark Night Of My Soul’, ‘To Be Known’, ‘It’s Natural’, ‘Heaven’s Breath’, ‘Too Awesome’, ‘Received’ and ‘Eternal Love’, and other Avett Brothers’ covers included ‘Talk On Indolence’ and ‘Satan Pulls The Strings’.
For Patton, he broke out the song ‘Digging The Grave’ which he released with his other band Faith No More, as well as their huge cover of Commodore’s ‘Easy’ and classic track ‘Ashes To Ashes’.
Towards the end of the sets, Patton and co. covered the fan favourite track ‘Retrovertigo’ from his other band, Mr Bungle, and he and the Avett Brothers also covered songs by Dean Martin and Roger Miller.

The tour alongside The Avett Brothers comes following Patton seemingly confirming that Faith No More have disbanded, and adding that he doesn’t “see it as a sad thing”.
The Bay Area alt-rock legends have been largely inactive for the last decade since the release of their comeback album ‘Sol Invictus’ in 2015.
They played their last live shows the following year and were due to tour again in 2020, but these dates were later scrapped due to COVID-19. Further plans were announced in 2021, but those were cancelled too, with Patton citing mental health reasons. He later revealed he had been diagnosed with agoraphobia during the pandemic.
As well as Faith No More and Mr Bungle, Patton has also been in other groups including Fantômas and Tomahawk.
The latter recently announced details of their first tour in 13 years, which will take place across the US this summer. Dates for that kick off in Nashville in July, and the run also sees Patton and co. reunite with longtime labelmates Melvins for the first time since 2003.
