Britney Spears has entered rehab following an arrest for driving under the influence last month.

The pop star was arrested on March 4 for suspected “driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol” in California, per TMZ.

Upon her arrest, a rep for Spears described it as “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable”, and added that the singer was “going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”

She then went on to speak out directly about the incident herself, sharing a video of her dancing with her 19-year-old son Jayden Federline and thanking fans for their “support”.

Now, a rep for Spears confirmed last night (Sunday April 12) that the singer has voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility, as per Huffington Post.

Her team did not share exactly when she entered the rehab facility, nor did they divulge any further details about her expected release date.

The singer is still scheduled to appear in court on May 4 in relation to the arrest.

This is not the first time that the ‘If U Seek Amy’ singer has been arrested after being behind the wheel. In 2007, she faced charges in a hit-and-run case, although these were eventually dropped and a jury acquitted her of driving without a valid California license.

Since then, she has gone on to publish her memoir, The Woman In Me, which made countless headlines upon its release due to the candid discussions of her career, relationships, 13-year conservatorship and personal experiences.

After its release, she was accused by her ex-husband Kevin Federline of using cocaine during a period when she was breastfeeding their two children. She responded by implying that Federline was trying to “profit off [her] pain”.

In 2023, Spears batted off accusations about drug use too, and said that rumours alleging that her family was concerned about her having drug issues were “not true”.

Police had confirmed earlier that year that Spears was not in “any kind of danger” after conducting a wellness check.
