James McAvoy makes his directorial debut with music biopic California Schemin’.
The film is based on the true story of Scottish rappers Billy Boyd and Gavin Bain, who pretended to be American for three years as rap duo Silibil N’ Brains in order to be taken seriously by the music industry.

Samuel Bottomley and Séamus McLean Ross play Boyd and Bain respectively, alongside McAvoy, Lucy Halliday, Rebekah Murrell, James Corden and Jennifer Win.
California Schemin’ is released in UK cinemas on April 10, 2026.
