Yesterday (Wednesday April 1), it was reported that the rapper and actor had been hospitalised after falling “very ill” during a performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical in New York.

She is currently portraying Zidler in the production for an eight-week run, marking her Broadway debut, and a rep said that she was “promptly transported to a local hospital” as she “started feeling very ill”.

The rep added that “her symptoms [were] being evaluated” in hospital, and said that additional updates would be shared as they arose, while her hair stylist said that her team were with her at the hospital and asked for “everyone [to] say a prayer for Megan”.

Now, the rapper has shared more insight with fans and revealed that the illness was brought on by exhaustion and by over-working herself.

“Last night was a real wake-up call for me,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me. I thought I was gonna faint on stage, I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn’t.”

She went on to apologise to fans and say that she was taking just one day off before returning to the stage for the musical.

“Hotties I wanna be real with y’all because you mean everything to me and I hate letting yall down. I just need one day to rest, reset, and take care of myself the way I should have been,” she said. “I’ll be right back on that stage Thursday, stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100 per cent the way you deserve. Thank you for always riding with me and loving me through everything”.

With the on-stage role, Megan is the first female-identifying performer to play Zidler worldwide, and her stint in the production is set to run until May 17, per the Moulin Rouge! Website.

Her latest album was ‘Megan: Act II’, which arrived in 2024 and earned a glowing, five-star review from NME – who said it confirms that she is “the baddest bitch out right now once again”.

Since then, she has shared two singles in 2025, ‘Whenever’ and ‘Lover Girl’, and also revealed that she was underway with “completing act three” of her albums, which is expected to drop later this year.

More recently, the rapper has teamed up with Nickelback for an insane new Cheetos advert.
