The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is out next week (April 1) and will see the return of Jack Black (Bowser), Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) alongside newcomers Donald Glover (Yoshi), Benny Safdie (Bowser Jr.) and Nintendo superfan Brie Larson (Princess Rosalina).
While doing press for the movie, some of the cast were asked by YouTuber Jake’s Takes to come up with lyrics for the iconic, chirpy Super Mario Bros. theme.
Chris Pratt instantly looked to Donald Glover, AKA rapper Childish Gambino for the challenge. “There’s a mushroom then you go and get it, and sometimes you get a star. Then you go into a tunnel,” he sang with Charlie Day finishing the track off with “and there you are.”
“That was great. Have you thought about doing music [because] you’re really good,” said Pratt. “We’ll see where this goes,” replied Glover.
Meanwhile Anya Taylor-Joy performed the stream-of-consciousness that happens when she’s playing Mario (“run, run, run, run, jump, get the coin”) while Black and Safdie turned the track into an advert for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. “Don’t forget that Yoshi’s in this one. Donald Glover kicks lots of ass,” sang Black. “[Bowser and Bowser Jr.] are going to destroy the universe and also will be friends”.
Yesterday (March 26) it was confirmed that Fox McCloud from the Star Fox games will feature in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie and earlier this week, a new rating for the film revealed that a 19-year-old mystery about Rosalina’s relationship with Princess Peach might be addressed in the movie.
