The group SF9 made their comeback on March 25 with a special album filled entirely with ballads.
SF9’s special album, “About Love,” captures various stories regarding the nature of love. The album looks back on the path SF9 has walked over the past ten years and encapsulates their feelings toward those who have walked that journey alongside them, expressing these sentiments through the diverse language of love. Rather than relying on flashy superlatives, the group chose the simplest, most ordinary words to convey their profound sincerity.
This album traces an emotional trajectory that is seamlessly interconnected, much like a Möbius strip. It tells the story of a heart that ultimately returns to its beloved—just as the sun returns to its starting point at the end of each day. Notably, by composing the entire album with ballads, the group reveals a distinct emotional texture—one different from the high-energy image they have previously displayed—thereby showcasing a significantly expanded musical spectrum.
The title track, ‘Love Comes Slowly,’ is a pop ballad featuring a delicate piano melody enveloped by warm, comforting synth sounds that heighten the emotional atmosphere. A poignant guitar riff leaves a lingering, wistful resonance, while SF9’s signature, intricate vocal harmonies beautifully portray the emotions of a love that deepens gradually as two people become an integral part of each other’s daily lives.
In addition to the title track, ‘About Love’ features a total of seven diverse ballad-style songs. These include “Fade Into Memories,” an R&B ballad capturing the lingering traces of a past love; “You Think Too Much,” which showcases the harmonious blend of SF9’s sophisticated vocals; “Last of Us,” a pop track distinguished by its synth-driven sound and dreamlike atmosphere; “Hurt & Hollow,” a song that leaves a lingering sense of poignant emotion; “By Your Side,” which captures—through SF9’s signature sincere vocals—the preciousness of those who always remain by one’s side; and “Broken Way,” a solo track performed by Yoo Taeyang.
Through this new release, SF9 reflects upon the past decade while simultaneously singing of the preciousness of the people currently by their side—exploring the nature of love itself, and the profound significance of “being together,” no matter what winding paths one may have taken to get there.
