Jamie Lee Curtis is set to star in a movie version of classic TV series Murder, She Wrote, set to debut Christmas 2027.

The Oscar winner will play Jessica Fletcher, an author of mystery novels who also solves crimes. The role was made famous by the late Angela Lansbury, who starred in 12 seasons of the show from 1984-1996, as well as four TV films from 1997 to 2003.

At its peak, 25million Americans tuned in to the show, which also enjoyed success via syndicated reruns, and still enjoys a cult following today.

A reboot of the series was planned in 2013, starring Octavia Spencer, although plans were shelved after a negative reception to the idea.

Directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), little else is known about the new project, except that it is scheduled for release in cinemas on December 22, 2027. Currently, that would mean it faces stiff competition from the likes of Avengers: Secret Wars, and The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum, both released around that time.

Angela Lansbury died in 2022 at the age of 96, with her final film role being a cameo in Knives Out sequel Glass Onion, where she appeared as part of a group playing the video game Among Us. Director Rian Johnson revealed he had tried to teach the veteran star how to play the game.

Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars in 2023 for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once. The success sparked a comeback for the Hollywood veteran, who starred in the long-awaited sequel to Freaky Friday last year, and appeared in this month’s new crime drama Scarpetta opposite Nicole Kidman.

Recently, the actor discussed returning to the Halloween franchise in the late 2010s, saying she wouldn’t have signed on had she known the reboot’s success would have led to a trilogy.
