A developer at Rockstar Games has revealed they spent over three years making broken glass look more realistic in Grand Theft Auto 6.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is due to launch this November, almost thirteen years after Grand Theft Auto 5 was released. So far, developers Rockstar Games has shared two trailers as well as a number of screenshots and character profiles. The studio has also delayed the highly-anticipated game twice, saying the extra months will “allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
Yesterday, a former Rockstar developer updated their Linkedin profile and confirmed they’d spent 39 months working on Grand Theft Auto 6. As well as “designing tools for production to capture in-game footage with extra details from our rendering system” and “improving various rendering systems”, the employee also claimed they “took lead on the next generation procedural breakable glass system for vehicles and probs.”
The post quickly went viral on social media, with fans excited about the “insane levels of realism” in Grand Theft Auto 6. However the former Rockstar developer soon removed the information. “Do you think he got in trouble,” asked one fan.

Last year, a report claimed Rockstar had spent between $200million and $300million to create hyper-realistic water in Grand Theft Auto 6 with a team of 20 working on the project. “The game will include surfing, as well as hurricanes and floods. For the first time in an open-world game, high and low tides will be dynamic,” added the leak.
The boss of Grand Theft Auto 6 publishers Take Two has confirmed that Rockstar Games won’t use any AI in the creation of the upcoming game. “Generative AI has zero part in what Rockstar Games is building. Their worlds are handcrafted. That’s what differentiates them,” Strauss Zelnick said in an interview. “They’re built from the ground up, building by building, street by street, neighbourhood by neighbourhood. They’re not procedurally generated, they shouldn’t be. That’s what makes great entertainment.”
Zelnick also reconfirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be released November 19, 2026 and shut down rumours that the physical version of the game would be delayed to avoid leaks.
