On Saturday (March 21), former Chelsea and Arsenal player Jorginho shared a lengthy post on his Instagram Stories, detailing an incident in which his 11-year-old daughter was dealt with by Roan’s security in a “completely disproportionate” manner, leaving the girl in tears.

His wife Catherine Harding and daughter, whose biological father is Jude Law, were staying at a São Paulo hotel while attending Lollapalooza Brazil, which Roan headlined on Saturday night. As Jorginho described it, his daughter recognised Roan at breakfast and walked past her table “to confirm it was her”.

He went on to say that “a large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people.”

Roan later responded to the claims, saying the security guard involved was not her personal security and that she “didn’t even see” the incident take place.

“I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not,” she said in a video. “They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions, when they have no reason to believe, because there’s no action even taken.”

Now, Harding – the girl’s mother – has shared her side of the story in a video shared yesterday (March 22).

She acknowledged Roan’s claim that the security guard who confronted her daughter was not her “personal security,” but also doubted he worked for the hotel. “100 per cent this security guard was not a security guard of the hotel. That’s what I can say,” she said. “He looks after artists, so. I don’t know if it was her personal security guard, but he was with her. So that’s all I know.”

“Did she send him to do it? Again, I don’t know,” Harding continued. “Look, I would like to hope not, but at the same time, I think that you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity to make sure, I guess, that the people that work for you and that act on your behalf are acting on your behalf.”

Harding went on to say: “If she did send him or she didn’t send him, I don’t know. For me, I feel like it really overstepped a boundary because he is quite an intimidating – he is very large. So for him to come over to a table with just a woman and her daughter eating breakfast to kind of like berate and scold us and say that he was going to complain, and tell me that I should be teaching my daughter to be better and that she’s badly educated and we should respect people’s privacy and we should not harass people and all of these other things.

“So, would he do that if he didn’t have her authority to do so? I don’t know if he does; then obviously that’s a big problem because then he’s representing her in a way that she doesn’t want to be represented. So I think that’s really important for her to notice and realise that’s not correct,” she added.

Harding said she and her daughter went to Sao Paõlo specifically to see Roan perform at Lollapalooza Brasil. “It was my daughter’s birthday present; she actually asked for tickets to come for her birthday present,” Harding explained. However, because of the incident, they did not end up going to the show.”

In her own statement, Roan said: “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy. I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something, that you would do something and that if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”

After Jorginho’s post, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro banned Roan from one of the city’s largest music events, Todo Mundo no Rio, while offering an invitation to the daughter to attend the upcoming edition as an honoured guest.

The incident follows Roan’s now-viral encounter with hordes of paparazzi in Paris, in which the pop star said she felt “disregarded as a human” and turned the tables by filming them, with that incident far from the only time that the former NME Cover star has called out intrusive behaviour from fans and paparazzi.

Back in 2024, she divided opinions when she compared fame to “an abusive ex-husband” and vented about the normalisation of extreme fan behaviour, including “stalking, talking shit online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public.”

Prior to that, she had taken to TikTok to share her thoughts on “weird” and “creepy” followers, calling out the “predatory behaviour” of so-called “superfans” that includes “nonconsensual physical and social interactions”, and also hit back at photographers who yelled at her on the VMAs red carpet.

Her statements have since been applauded by celebrities like Miley CyrusStevie NicksRachel Zegler, and Daniel Craig, the latter saying he admires “the guts to say those things”. Olivia Rodrigo also revealed that Roan has been a key support figure in helping her deal with an “overwhelming” entertainment industry.
