Lana Del Rey has said “fuck you” to an Atlanta venue hosting a drag brunch branded ‘Lana Del Rey vs. Ethel Cain’.

The LGBTQ+ bar Lore is hosting the event on Sunday (March 29) and has advertised it on social media, and one Instagram post has incurred the ire of Del Rey herself, who commented on the post by writing: “Sadly, none of this is funny. She’s abusive and that’s all there is to it.”

The bar later shared a DM that Del Rey had sent them that simply read: “Fuck you”. Lore responded by saying that Del Rey “will always be a part of our LORE. See you next Sunday! #blocked”

It is a continuation of Del Rey’s public feud with Cain, which burst into the public sphere last summer when Lana shared a snippet of new music that seemed to take a direct shot at Cain.

The diss song including the lyrics: “Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post/ Think it’s cute re-enacting my Chicago pose”, before continuing: “Hard to roll in slow motion/ Hard to say no to precaution/ Hard to stop when it’s like an ocean/ Not afraid to say I’m going down in flames.”

Later in the song, she sings: “The most famous girl at the Waffle House/ I don’t regret it/ The most famous girl at the Waffle House”. This was suspected to be another shot at Cain, as she had a feature in the New York Times in 2022 which came with the title “The Most Famous Girl At The Waffle House”.

It is unknown what Cain has done to be “abusive” as Del Rey has now claimed, but fans believe their beef goes back to the two singers’ respective ties to Jack Donoghue, a member of the band Salem.

The “Chicago pose” that Cain is said to have re-enacted may apply to a photo that Del Rey posted of herself and Donoghue, who were dating at the time, outside Chicago’s Cook County jail in 2022. Cain later shared a photo of her own alongside Donoghue in the same spot.

Cain responded to Del Rey’s diss track last summer by posting on Instagram: “Update: Lana Del Rey has blocked Ethel Cain in Instagram”.

In the past, it appears that Cain had been a fan of Del Rey’s, and a recording she made of her song ‘Born To Die’ in 2017 recently resurfaced online – listen here:

Cain gave an interview in 2021 to Hero Magazine, in which she discussed her relationship with Del Rey: “I love Lana, I love her older music. Her newer stuff doesn’t really resonate with me, but I’d be a liar to say I never loved Lana. Musically, I’m not super inspired by her, but I see where comparisons could be drawn. The music is deeper, sultrier, smokier. It’s lazy and sexy while still having viper-like femininity.”

She added: “But here’s the line between Lana and me. Lana is all façade; she is glamour, she is old Hollywood, she is the peak opulence of the American Dream. And for me, I’m like, that’s just not what America is to me. I think America is the bottom line – it’s the poor people, the people who have been the most affected by the government, by the system. People who are constantly spat on.”

After Lana’s diss track was posted last summer, Nicki Minaj waded into the controversy by sharing that she had been singing the “Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post” line “all morning”.

“And something about the Waffle House & a picture w/some boy? But how can a melody & instruments & background vocals & the mixing be so good that I’m walking around all day talking about a person named Ethel who I do not know hating an instagram post I never even posted? HELP MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!” Minaj said.

Meanwhile, Del Rey is preparing to release her 10th studio album ‘Stove’, and shared the new single ‘White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter’, which she wrote with her husband Jeremy Dufrene, in February. The album still does not have a release date, but she suggested in February that it would be out in around three months’ time.
