Dropping on Wednesday morning (March 18), the trailer clocked up 718.6 million views in 24 hours. It vastly surpassed the previous record for the most-watched trailer of all time held by Grand Theft Auto 6, which racked up 475 million views in 24 hours in 2023.

Meanwhile, the most viewed movie trailer of all time prior to the new Spider-Man instalment breaking the record was Deadpool and Wolverinewith 375million views, but that record was surpassed in the space of eight hours.

In the run-up to the full trailer dropping, Disney had released tiny snippets one day in advance until the complete video arrived.

“Four years have passed since the events of ‘No Way Home,’ and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves,” reads the logline for Brand New Day. “Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”

Tom Holland returns as the web-slinging hero alongside Zendaya as his girlfriend MJ, leading a cast that also includes Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.

The film, the first in the franchise since 2021’s No Way Homewill arrive in cinemas on July 31. It is the last chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) before the epic Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives December 18.

Recently, a studio executive revealed that Spider-Man: No Way Home was not released in China because censors demanded that the Statue Of Liberty be cut from the film’s finale.

Elsewhere, Tom Holland and Zendaya made headlines when stylist Law Roach revealed that the couple have already married in secret.
