Skate launched in September with more than 15million players tying out the free-to-play title in its first month. The ‘90s-inspired season one went live in October and gave the game’s bumper soundtrack a major makoever. The ‘80s-inspired season two followed in December with music from IDLES, Motörhead and New Order added to the soundtrack.

Skate season three kicked off earlier this week and now developers EA have confirmed all the new music that will be added to the game. “As always, we know music is part of the soul of skateboarding, and we’ll be updating the soundtrack by bringing 20 new songs to help drive that 70s vibe into the rotation to get your groove on,” they explained in a blog post.

Skate season three will run until June 2 and add new areas, challenges, seasonal events, tricks and player customisation options.

According to developers, the plan is for Skate to be an ever-evolving world and every season a “significantly heavy batch” of songs will be replaced by new choices. “If there’s an outcry because one particular song left, there’s definitely the opportunity of making it permanent or bringing it back,” Skate Creative Director Deran Chung told NME. The team are also “always listening” to suggestions from fans.

However there are songs that will never appear in Skate. “In skateboarding, if someone uses a song in one of their videos, you’re not supposed to use it again, so there’s a little bit of that,” with the music of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Grand Theft Auto forbidden, he added. “If players have already heard that song a million times, I don’t necessarily want them to listen to it again in our game. There’s enough music in the world. And I like the challenge of finding other stuff that’s just as good.”

In other news SEED, an ambitious “always on” online multiplayer game, has shared a new trailer featuring Björk classic ‘Human Behaviour’ – and she’s “thrilled”.
