Finneas has been announced as the composer for the upcoming second season of Netflix’s hit show Beef.

The anthology series is returning to the streaming service on April 16, with Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton stepping into the lead roles for its second run.
Now, it has been revealed that Finneas, the producer and musician who has won two Oscars and 11 Grammys for his work with his sister Billie Eilish, is scoring the new season. He has previously served as a composer on the indie films The Fallout and Vengeance, as well as Alfonso Cuaron’s series Disclaimer. He also recently created the new Apple TV+ theme tune.
“Spent the last 12 months in BEEF land,” Finneas has said. “All eight episodes out April 16, all original music by me. Very grateful to Sonny for involving me, very grateful for the incredible performances from the entire cast; I probably watched every scene 100 times while I scored the show and I felt it every time. True fan of this show, very honored and proud to be a part of it.”
Beef creator Lee Sung Jin added: “Finneas is the brilliant mind behind most of the music that has soundtracked my personal life over the last decade, so it’s an absolute honor to collaborate with him on the new season. He has an incredible ability to make the darkest emotions sound so achingly beautiful, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear what he’s cooked up.”
Season one of Beef starred Steven Yeun and Ali Wong as strangers whose involvement in a road rage incident blew up into a longer feud, while season two is set to take place in a country club.
Spaeny and Melton play newly-engaged couple Ashley Miller and Austin Davis, both staffers at the club, who “become entangled in the unravelling marriage of their general manager … and his wife.”
Isaac plays the manager, Joshua Martin, with Mulligan playing his wife, Lindsay Crane-Martin. After coming across the married couple in the middle of a fight – Isaac holding a golf club – Miller and Davis become involved in a protracted war with them.
Creator Lee Sung Jin explained that he wanted the core conflict to be between people of similar ages, rather than simply old and young battling – for this reason, he decided to put a Gen Z pair against a millennial couple. “What if we actually made them a little bit closer in age and highlight that generational divide?” he asked Netflix’s Tudum.
He added that Miller and Davis, as a younger couple, “have never been tested,” in comparison to their millennial counterparts. “Austin and Ashley think all they need is each other and the beach. So when we meet them, they are thrust into intersecting with our millennial couple,” Lee said. “It’ll be interesting to see with these two how they react to life’s first real struggles.”
