Zara Larsson has responded to people who have criticised her for making a joke about abortion.

The singer divided opinions when she responded to a video posted by a fan on TikTok. In the post, someone shared a clip of the Swedish singer and songwriter performing live, and wrote that they “didn’t know that I was pregnant here”, adding: “At least my baby got to hear ‘Midnight Sun’ before I aborted it”.
Responding to the post, Larsson wrote in the comment section: “I killed the performance and then you killed it after the performance purrrrrr.”
Unsurprisingly, the comment led to mixed reactions online, with some defending the singer for making the joke, and some suggesting that it was in bad taste.
Now, Larsson has responded to the backlash, doubling down on her stance. Taking to TikTok, the singer shared a video in which she shared that she “doesn’t know what to say” to people who took issue with the comment.
“Sorry, that’s funny… Sorry if you don’t have humour,” she said. “But also I’m not really here to argue with the people who are very against abortions for whatever reason because we’re so fundamentally different in the way we view the world, at least on this topic.”

She went on to say that she saw lots of comments saying that the topic of abortion was “not something to joke about”, and added that while she is “not here to trying to convince you guys that abortion is healthcare or whatever”, she was confused why people want to keep it as a “taboo” subject.
“Why do you feel like abortion is only OK when it’s a very hard decision, when it’s something that women have to struggle with going through, when it’s emotionally or physically painful?” she questioned.
“Why does that make it morally superior to someone just wanting an abortion for whatever reason? Why is it only morally OK when women have to suffer? Now riddle me that,” she added, also saying that she fully agrees that there should be better education available “to prevent it”.
And THATS on #healthcare

As for the joke she made on the fan’s post, she said: “I feel like by joking about stuff like that, which is a ‘serious topic’, it also makes it something that we can just talk about. It doesn’t have to be taboo. It doesn’t have to be this bad thing that women do.”
“If we speak about it in a casual manner, that also makes [it easier for] the women who go through it and who are actually suffering through it,” she concluded. “So let’s just make more jokes. Abortion is healthcare, what can I say.”
Last month, Larsson also got fans talking when she pleaded with fans to help her change her Wikipedia photo to something more flattering.
“Whoever the fuck is changing this fucking Wikipedia picture to this picture, stop! Stop doing it,” she said, pointing out which picture she didn’t like, and saying that she is determined to swap it out permanently. “I will never stop, I will never stop changing that picture.”
Since then, double Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu made headlines by skating to PinkPantheress and Larsson‘s ‘Stateside’ remix at the 2026 Figure Skating Exhibition Gala.
