Robert Pattinson’s therapist once asked him if he was on drugs because they “couldn’t understand him”

Robert Pattinson has revealed a therapist once thought he was “on drugs” while speaking to him.

The star was discussing finding fame after Twilight, and the pressure of being known for a particular role, in a new discussion with actor Zendaya for Interview Magazine. When talking about public perception, the actor revealed: “I went to therapy once and the therapist asked me if I was on drugs because they couldn’t understand what I was talking about. I was like, ‘I’m trying my best.’”

Earlier in the article, he talked about the reaction to the Twilight franchise, which had a large and devoted fanbase as well as vocal critics. “There was such a cultural pushback against it, almost simultaneous to its success, so I kind of had to ride both things,” he said. “I really enjoyed making the movies, but then there was such a huge marketing push behind it as well. I didn’t want to get my personal identity caught up in that, so I tried to push forward my individuality a little, and that kind of stuck with me.”

The actor played vampire Edward Cullen in all five Twilight films between 2008 and 2012. After leaving the franchise, however, he focused on independent movies such as The Safdie Brothers thriller Good Time, The Lighthouse, and Mickey 17.

Robert Pattinson will star opposite Zendaya in two movies this year – A24’s The Drama, released in cinemas April 3, as well as Dune: Part Three, released December 18. In July, he will appear in the Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey, while he is also in pre-production on a sequel to box office hit The Batman.

Recently, Pattinson’s Twilight co-star, Kristen Stewart, said she would be open to directing a reboot of the franchise. “Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m doing it! I’m committed!”
