Turner will play Lara Croft in a live-action adaptation of Tomb Raider alongside Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein.

Production started earlier this year with a first-look image of Turner’s Lara Croft revealing a video-game accurate costume for the bad-ass archaeologist. However, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Turner has said her Lara Croft won’t be a “sex bombshell.”

“It’s about her and her story and what drives her, rather than what so many people also love about her, which is how hot she is in the games and the movies,” Turner said. “But I really want to show the other side. She’s so unashamedly capable. She is not a woman who hides her strengths at all.”

Angelina Jolie previously took on the role of Croft in two film adaptations, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle Of Life (2003). A more gritty, grounded take on the character appeared in the 2018 movie reboot, played by Alicia Vikander.

According to Turner, she trained for eleven months before production started on Tomb Raider and now feels more comfortable walking around in public. “As a mum, I come up with scenarios in my head and I’m like, ‘OK, if a man jumped out of here what would I do?’ And it always [used to be], ‘I’d just pick the kids up and run’. But now it’s changed. My instinct would be to deck him in the face,” she explained.

Amazon Prime Video’s take on Tomb Raider will be written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), who’ll also serve as co-showrunner. “It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving,” she said in a statement. “Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artefacts out… Croft is coming…”

A release date is yet to be announced.

However Tomb Raider fans can expect a full remake of the original game to launch later this year while brand new adventure Tomb Raider: Catalyst will launch in 2027.

In other news Jason Paige, the singer behind the iconic Pokémon theme tune, has shared ‘Catch The World With A Throw’ in honour of the 10th anniversary of Pokémon Go.
