Released today (Friday February 13), ‘Lights Burn Dimmer’ samples Jamie T’s 2023 track ‘Hippodrome’, reimagining the indie hit as a euphoric dance track.
The single artwork on streaming platforms currently reads “artwork will be updated after tonight’s show..”, referencing his ‘USB002 Tour’ stop at London’s Alexandra Palace this evening. Visit here for any remaining tickets.
The track marks Fred’s third release of 2026, following ‘Scared’, featuring Young Thug, and Hamdi’s remix of ‘OK OK’, which comes from his upcoming ‘USB002 REMIXES’ album, due on March 6 (pre-order here).
It comes alongside a slow-motion, black-and-white music video directed by rubberband, which you can check out below.
The track was first teased back in 2024, ahead of Fred headlining Reading Festival. Prior to his set, he shared a video montage of his time attending Reading as a punter during his teenage years, alongside a clip of a new song sampling ‘Hippodrome’.
In an Instagram caption, he wrote: “for me and I feel like sooooo many of us this was our first festival experience. I feel like we ALL know EXACTLY what the feeling of that festival is!!
“I’ve been looking through some photos with friends and I remember sitting in our campsite with warm tinnies at the end of one of the nights listening to Jamie T. Fuck he’s so good innit.”
At the time, he made it clear the track wasn’t for his then-upcoming album ‘Ten Days’, writing: “no idea what its for cos it sounds nothing like my album but it sounds like how I feel right now.”
He also shared a live video of himself performing the track on New Year’s Eve.
Fred Again..’s USB series first began in 2022, with an album that featured songs like ‘Baby Again’, ‘Rumble’ with Skrillex & Flowdan, ‘Jungle’, ‘leavemealone’ with Baby Keem, and ‘stayinit’ with Lil Yachty. It then came with remixes from Nia Archives, HAAi and Rico Nasty, before the first collection was released on vinyl as ‘USB001’ in 2024.
‘USB002’ was released in December and was awarded four stars from NME, in a review that read: “While the ‘Actual Life’ series and ‘Ten Days’ captured flickers of life, the common thread of ‘USB’ seems to be an eternal state of flux, where all limits and shackles are off.
“Bridging the gap between the album and playlist format, ‘USB002’ is the latest piece of evidence that the man of the hour will surely become the man of the decade, and – with the streak he’s on – perhaps his generation.”
In other news, back in December, the London DJ and producer opened up about his approach to songwriting and criticism in a rare interview.
Sitting alongside Ezra Collective’s Femi Koleoso, Fred said he is gradually becoming more accepting of his music and pushing himself to release more, rather than quickly dismissing it in the early stages.
“For me, I’m trying to just protect my mental [health] so that I can feel good to make music every day, so everything just kind of feeds into that,” he said, looking back at some of the biggest moments of his career.
“[I have] a WhatsApp group with four of us and I’ll send everything to that group,” he continued. “All of them aren’t musicians, and that’s almost why I value their thoughts… You can take the feedback that resonates. That’s the most important thing. Don’t listen to any criticism, listen to the criticism that resonates.”
Fred Again..’s song with Skepta and Plaqueboymax, ‘Victory Lap’, was recently listed on NME’s list of the Best Songs Of 2025. In a description, Kyann-Sian Williams described the collab as a “true grand slam”.
