The beloved ‘90s show TFI Friday has made a return, with Chris Evans hosting an ‘Unplugged’ new version on YouTube.

The original programme ran on Channel 4 from 1996 until 2000, with Evans interviewing musicians, comedians and actors in an unruly, chaotic manner, with a studio audience getting involved in the show. Many shows featured live performances from the Britpop bands of the day.
On Friday (February 6), Evans hosted TFI Unplugged, a 30-minute special presented by Virgin Radio UK, the station on which Evans currently hosts the Breakfast Show.
The revival stuck close to the original format, with James playing a stripped back version of ‘Sit Down’ to open the show and frontman Tim Booth giving an interview, in which he reminisced about touring with The Smiths on the ‘Meat Is Murder’ tour in 1985.
James returned to close out the show with ‘Say Something’.
Evans also interviewed Delroy Lindo, who is currently nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. Comedian Ross Noble was the other guest on the show.
TFI Unplugged is expected to become a regular presence on Virgin Radio UK’s YouTube channel. Evans said on his radio show on Monday (February 9): “We’ve got plenty of road still to run here before we run out of road. That’s what I’m saying to myself.”
“Thank you so much for watching it in your tens of thousands on YouTube. 30 years ago today, Channel 4 allowed the TFI gang to play and here we are still 30 years on. Dare I say here’s to the next 30.”
Evans hosted TFI Friday for five seasons, with Danny Baker writing the show. Guest presenters hosted a sixth season before it was cancelled, but it returned for a short run again on Channel 4 in 2015.
