The show revolves around two fictional actors – Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) – as they try land roles in a remake of the superhero movie Wonder Man.

Kingsley returns from his role in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, while Zlatko Buric (Triangle Of Sadness) plays Von Kovak, the director of the Wonder Man remake in the show.

It has been created by Destin Daniel Cretton, the Short Term 12 director that is also directing the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Andrew Guest, who has worked on 30 Rock, Community and Hawkeye.

All eight episodes of Wonder Man landed on Disney+ on January 27.

The show has been widely compared to Seth Rogen’s The Studio, and in a four-star review, NME wrote: “While there are plenty of laughs, Kingsley gets to do more than just joke around – switching on the gravitas and sensitivity when required though Abdul-Mateen (underused in films Aquaman and The Matrix Resurrections) gets the best showcase for his charismatic presence since TV’s Watchmen. By ditching standard tropes for something more character focused, the MCU manages to swerve superhero fatigue with this extremely meta standalone treat.”

Will there be a season two of Wonder Man?

The show was originally conceived for a one season run and it saw its release delayed for over a year by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. However, given the strong responses from audiences and critics, it now looks as though Marvel is close to officially renewing it for a second season.

While still unconfirmed, it was reported on February 5 by the renowned industry insider Daniel Richtman that Marvel Studios was “very close” to giving season two of Wonder Man the green light.

Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel Studios, has previously told Entertainment Weekly: “If it’s the only Wonder Man story, it really stands on its own as a beautiful piece. But I anticipate that when people get to the end of this story, they’re gonna want more. And I hope that’s what happens.”
