‘The Celebrity Traitors’ doesn’t allow reality TV stars, applicant claims

The Celebrity Traitors is set to return for a second season later this year, but it looks like it will not be featuring any famous faces from reality television.

The first first season of the BBC One show – a spin-off of the regular Traitors series – wrapped up in November and proved a huge hit with viewers, bringing in a reported 11million for the final episode alone.

That season featured big names like Cat Burns, Jonathan Ross, Sir Stephen Fry, Alan Carr, Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church, Nick Mohammed, Tom Daley and more.

Now, while speculation has arisen about who will join the cast for the newly-confirmed second season, one applicant has revealed that viewers shouldn’t expect to see any reality stars on the show any time soon.

Speaking a recent interview, former Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby has said that she reached out to join the second season, but was told that they will not be taking on anyone from reality shows.

“I would love to do that, but they’ve got a no reality rule. That is a genuine fact,’ she told The Sun. “My agent is on the line and he will confirm. They take no reality stars. A lot of shows have this rule.”

She also told the outlet that a few shows have had that same rule in the past, but gradually overturn it as seasons progress and it gets harder to find famous faces to take part.

I’m A Celebrity[… Get Me Out Of Here] used to have this rule. But it gets to the point where they’ve obviously run out of big names so they have to start delving into reality,” she added.

“So they’ll have this rule for maybe three or four series and then they might have to break the mould a bit. As soon as they do, I will be there with my fucking cloak.’

The BBC have not confirmed whether these claims from Crosby are true, and did not share comment with Metro when it reached out.

At time of writing, it hasn’t been confirmed exactly when fans can expect to see the second season return to screens. That being said, it is likely to be at some point in 2026, and will see Claudia Winkleman return to host. Companion show The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked will also come back to BBC Two, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds alongside the new season.

No contestants have been confirmed yet, and those rumoured by fans to be taking part include Cheryl Cole, Jamie Oliver, Alison Hammond, and Danny Dyer.

While the first season of The Traitors aired in 2022, it took until 2025 to air a celebrity version in the UK. It became an instant success with its first episode getting 14.8million views over 28 days and becoming the most-watched single episode of TV that year.

Fans online described the finale as “perhaps the best piece of reality TV in years” and the last few minutes as “Maybe the best 10 minutes of television ever to have existed in the entire history of time.”

The show also became the biggest unscripted show across the entire UK market since 2021, while a recent report revealed that the entire Traitors franchise has boosted Scotland’s economy by £21.8million since 2022 – it’s set in and around Ardross Castle in the Highlands.
