The original Tomb Raider game was released in October 1996 and quickly sold more than seven million copies. A number of sequels, Hollywood blockbusters and an animated TV show followed. In 2024, Lara Croft was voted the most iconic video game character of all time.
At the end of last year it was confirmed that a remake of the original Tomb Raider will be released at some point in 2026 ahead of brand new adventure Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which is due to launch in 2027.
The 30th anniversary celebrations don’t stop there though and in a new blog post, Crystal Dynamics has revealed a number of collaborations that will be released over the next 12 months. “It’s been 30 years since Lara Croft climbed, jumped, and swan-dived onto the scene, and every moment since has been an adventure. From her sharply-polygonal origins in 1996, to the recently announced Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis, our favorite British archaeologist and adventurer has established herself as gaming’s most iconic heroine, and we plan to celebrate that legacy all year long,” they wrote.

Tomb Raider will be teaming up with retro-inspired gaming peripheral company 8BitDo, fine art studio Blend Cota and Funko, as well as launching collabs with trading card company Upper Deck, cutting-edge eyewear makers Gunnar Optiks, streetwear brand Fulllife and Dark Horse comics.
Crystal Dynamics has also teased a new project with Aspyr, the “next-level developer and publisher whose recent work includes Tomb Raider 1-6 Remastered and the release of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.” Fans are now speculating that Aspyr could be working on a remastered version of the Legends trilogy.
Released between 2006 and 2006, the Tomb Raider Legends trilogy was a “reimagining” of the hit franchise that spanned Legend, Anniversary and Underworld.
Filming for Amazon Prime Video’s new Tomb Raider adaptation is also set to start this year. Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in the show alongside Jason Isaacs (Atlas DeMornay), Sigourney Weaver (Evelyn Wallis) and Celia Imrie (Francine). “I’ve been a longtime fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara,” said Turner. “She has always felt for me, very emboldened in a male-dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model!”
In other news, Amazon Prime Video has made the first season of Fallout available to watch for free ahead of the season two finale.
