Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired the rights to the Chinese historical action film “Blades of the Guardians” from Mandarin Motion Pictures. Directed by master filmmaker and action director Yuen Woo-ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Fearless, The Grandmaster), the film is set for a Chinese New Year theatrical debut on February 17.
Based on the comic by Xianzhe Xu, “Blades of the Guardians” features an impressive all-star cast, including the film’s producer himself, Wu Jing (Wolf Warrior series). The highly anticipated film also stars Jet Li (Once Upon a Time in China), Nicholas Tse (Raging Fire), and Yosh Yu (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms). Adding to this epic lineup are K-pop artists and sensations JUN (Wen Junhui) of SEVENTEEN and Winwin of NCT.
President and CEO of Well Go USA Entertainment, Doris Pfardrescher, commented on the recent news by describing “Blades of the Guardians” as “a sweeping action epic led by legends of the genre”. “With Yuen Woo-ping’s masterful direction and an extraordinary ensemble led by Wu Jing and Jet Li”, Pfardrescher went on to say, “the film delivers high-intensity action on a grand scale. It is a celebration of martial arts cinema, a genre that has long been at the heart of Well Go’s identity and global audience connection”.
Well Go USA Entertainment is an Oscar-nominated theatrical and home entertainment distribution label that specializes in bringing the best in action, genre and independent films from the U.S. and around the world to North America. Produced by Peace Film Production and written by Yu Baimei, Chao-pin Su, Chan Tai Lee and Larry Yang, “Blades of the Guardians” is set during the Sui Dynasty under the rule of the oppressive Emperor Yang Guang. Following a skilled mercenary called Biao Ren across the harsh deserts of the Western Regions, the film centers on the warrior’s deceptively simple escort mission that spirals into a perilous scheme, promising danger at every turn.
