A pub in Somerset that was used in the film Hot Fuzz still has people travelling hours to visit them, 19 years after the movie’s release.
Released in 2007, the movie saw Shaun Of The Dead director Edgar Wright reunite with stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in a comedy that satirised buddy cop action films. The second in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, named after the ice cream brand mentioned in each film, it was the most successful collaboration between the trio and a beloved movie to this day.
BBC News have reported that the Somerset locations where the film was shot still enjoy regular visits from fans young and old, with tour guide Siobhan Goodwin quoted as saying: “People will happily travel four to five hours because this is the only place, in the world, to see the Hot Fuzz location.”
One particularly popular spot is the exterior of The Crown at Wells pub in the Market Place, one of the main filming spots for the movie. The pub’s landlord, Alan Turner, said the number of visitors who are fans of the film “never falls below 10 a day”. The pub has a special Hot Fuzz IPA on tap, and Turner revealed many of the visitors are current or former police officers.
Locations used in films have often attracted visitors looking to relive iconic moments, although not all of them are welcome. In 2019, the steps used during a famous scene in the movie Joker became a tourist attraction for those looking to recreate the iconic scene where Joaquin Phoenix’s character dances, however residents of the Bronx neighbourhood where it is located took issue with the increased foot traffic.
In 2024, the owner of the house used in the drama Saltburn spoke about movie lovers trespassing on to his grounds to look at the location. The owner of Drayton House in Northamptonshire, Charles Stopford Sackville, said: “It’s quite weird. I don’t take it as flattering.”
