‘The Traitors’ is getting a “bold” West End stage adaptation

The Traitors is set to get a West End stage adaptation following the success of the TV series.

The BBC show wrapped up its fourth civilian series last week, which reached a peak of 9.6million viewers – the highest yet for the main show, though it trailed behind the finale of the Celebrity edition last year, which took 11million.

It has now been confirmed that the series will be heading to the London stage, with a new story set to be told inspired by the format of the game.

Good Omens‘ John Finnemore is writing the play, with Operation Mincemeat‘s Rob Hastie set to direct the production from Studio Lambert and Neal Street Productions – the former of which is behind the BBC series.

The stage version will “reimagine the show as a bold and surprising theatrical performance”, according to Studio Lambert chief executive Stephen Lambert (via BBC News), who called it “a hugely exciting next step for this much-loved brand”.

“Faithful fans should expect an intense, joyful night out as we reveal a thrilling new hunting ground for our Traitors,” he added.

Neal Street Productions’ Caro Newling said they had “curated a team of brilliant faithful theatre-makers”, who will “bring a bold, structural twist to the format that only the live medium can provide”.

The most recent season of the TV series was won by contestants Rachel Duffy and Stephen Libby, who played as Traitors, with the pair becoming the first Traitor team to end up as victors.

The season provided many talked-about moments, including fellow Traitor Fiona confronting Rachel in front of the other contestants in a moment described by fans as one of the best in the show’s history.

Alongside a fifth series, a second series of the Celebrity edition is on the way too, with the first’s finale called “perhaps the best piece of reality TV in years” by fans.
