Roblox deny involvement in missing child case

The Roblox Corporation has denied any involvement in the case of missing child Thomas Medlin, who disappeared earlier this month.

Thomas Medlin went missing on January 9 after catching a train from Long Island to New York’s Grand Central Station. According to his mother Eva Yan, detectives believe her 15-year-old son met someone through Roblox and was planning to meet up with them in New York (via News12).

A statement from Roblox confirmed they were cooperating with police in the investigation but a new statement claims the gaming platform has no involvement in the disappearance.

This is my classmate Thomas Medlin, he has been missing since the 9th of this month. For my people in NYC, he is 5’4, about 120-30ish pounds his photo is in the tweet.

“We are deeply concerned about a report involving a missing child, Thomas Medlin, in New York, and our thoughts are with him and his family,” it reads. “When we learned that one of our users was missing, we followed our standard process and immediately began an investigation, searched for any previous law enforcement inquiries, and reached out to law enforcement to offer any support in their investigation.”

After a “thorough review”, Roblox has found “no attempts to direct Medlin to an off-platform communication method and no sharing of off-platform contact information, including usernames, phone numbers or other communication methods.” They went on to say that “all chat content was consistent with typical in-game discussions” and there was “no indication” that Medlin used voice chat.

Earlier this year, Roblox introduced age verification features that restrict players from chatting to strangers or people outside of their age bracket. However Roblox boss David Baszucki has hit back at claims the game has a problem with predators. “We think of it not necessarily just as a problem, but an opportunity,” he said in a bizarre interview last year.

At least three separate lawsuits have been filed against The Roblox Corporation in 2025 over “concerns” about child safety on the popular gaming platform. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton confirmed he was taking legal action against Roblox for “flagrantly ignoring” safety laws and “deceiving parents” about the dangers the online platform poses.

“We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators where the well-being of our kids is sacrificed on the altar of corporate greed,” he added.

In other news, Marvel’s Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal has spoken out against ICE after Alex Pretti was shot and killed by officers.
