Turner, best known for her role as Sansa Stark in the original series, recently spoke about the latest spinoff in the franchise she helped bring to life, and revealed she wouldn’t be tuning in.
During a recent red carpet appearance for the premiere of the new Prime Video thriller Steal, Turner was asked her thoughts on the latest iteration, which is based on George R.R. Martin‘s Tales Of Dunk And Egg novellas, and focuses on squire Ser Duncan the Tall, or Dunk (Peter Claffey).
“If I am totally honest, anything Game of Thrones, I don’t think I can [handle],” she said. “I can’t even hear the theme tune, it gives me crazy anxiety. I don’t know why. I had the best time on that show, but I can’t watch anything related to it.
“But I’m really excited for all the actors on it, and I think it will be incredible because it is that universe. So, good luck to everyone involved. I won’t be watching it, but I’ll be rooting for you.”
Similarly, Turner’s former co-star Emilia Clarke recently revealed she was done with the fantasy genre after finding fame in the series.
The British actor played Daenerys Targaryen, the “Mother Of Dragons”, for the show’s entire run from 2011-19, playing a pivotal part in the divisive final season. Almost seven years on from the show’s conclusion, however, she has said she is reluctant to appear in anything similar in the future.
Speaking to The New York Times, the actor simply said: “You’re highly unlikely to see me get on a dragon, or even in the same frame as a dragon, ever again.”
In NME‘s three-star review of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, we said: “The second Game Of Thrones prequel is a very different beast from the first. House Of The Dragon is driven by dynastic intrigue and political machinations, but A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms is a smaller story, speckled with slapstick humour and some very salty dialogue.”
