A single movie supercut of the IT films is in the works, according to a new interview with director Andy Muschietti.

The horror story, based on the book by Stephen King, was released in two parts in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Bill Skarsgård starred as Pennywise The Clown, a malevolent being who terrorises a group of children. The success of the films led to a TV spin-off, Welcome To Derry, which premiered last October.

Future IT films have been discussed, but in an interview reported by The Direct, Muschietti and his sister Barbara, who produced the films and series, revealed a supercut of both films was being worked on.

When asked about the third film, Andy said: “[A] supercut is something that’s coming, and we’ll see how this series does,” to which Barbara replied: “I was wondering about it a month ago, Stephen King asked how the supercut was going.”

Andy added: “It’s great because it’s truly a dream to put the two films into a single narrative piece. It will possibly have a different structure and will have extra scenes, added scenes. I still have to film some of them… because they are the interstitial fabric between the pieces of the story.”

Regarding a third film, Barbara said: “We don’t have time, that’s the problem.” Andy added: “But I think there’s interest. I think the studio is interested in funding it. We’ll see.”

In 2024, Skarsgård looked back on the Pennywise role, believing he might have been too young for the attention it brought. “When you are 26, you don’t feel young at all, but now, looking back at it, I was a kid,” he said. “It was fairly early on in my career to take on something that had so many eyeballs and expectations on it.”
