Hoy voy a escapar
borrar mis ser
no entiendo a nadie
Barcelona trio Low Blows introduce their second album, also titled Low Blows, with the single and video Vacío, a release that clarifies the band’s current direction with focus and restraint. The track centers on absence, disconnection, and fatigue, expressed plainly and without excess. Its structure is tight, built around repetition and steady momentum, allowing the emotional core to surface without embellishment. In tone and pacing, the song channels the austere pull of The Cure, Joy Division, Whispering Sons, and The Soft Moon, without leaning into pastiche.
Directed by Marta Szewczyk, the video mirrors this economy of approach. Rather than following a literal storyline, it relies on controlled movement, recurring images, and spatial tension.
Carlos Vergara’s presence is central and grounded, conveying weariness through posture and minimal gesture. Guitarist Andrés Silgado and drummer Rubén Carballo operate as part of a unified whole, their roles defined by interaction rather than spotlight. The band’s physical alignment in the frame reinforces the song’s themes of constraint and inward pressure.
Scenes repeat with small variations, creating a sense of containment and unease. The visual language draws from performance art and experimental cinema, using symbolism sparingly and letting implication do the work. References to David Lynch and Maya Deren surface through pacing and structure rather than overt quotation. The result is a video that supports the song’s intent directly, offering a concise statement of where the band stands now and how their influences are being shaped into a more defined present.

Vacío serves as a clear entry point to Low Blows’ self-titled album, which consolidates the band’s identity following their debut, Cruel (2020), and later releases like Go! (2024). The emphasis here is clarity and cohesion, both musically and visually.
Low Blows will make an appearance in Milano on January 17, at Bachelite cLab.
